Description

Dulse is a deep purple sea vegetable growing in bunches attached to rocks or mussels. Dulse can also
be found attached to the stipe of a different type of seaweed such as the Kombu.
As Dulse grows in the lower tidal area, a good low tide is necessary for harvesting. Thus, Dulse can be
accessed only every 2 weeks in the main harvesting season from Spring to Autumn.
Dillisk is a great source of minerals, vitamins, and trace elements. Dillisk is also interesting for
vegetarians and vegans as it contains quite a high amount of protein.
It contains significant amounts of calcium and potassium helping to strengthen your bones.
Dillisk tastes great fried in butter, nut oil or olive oil – the healthy alternative to potato chips. Or
simply sprinkle it on to oven baked potatoes covered with cheese.
Locals eat it straight from the bag as it does not require any soaking or cooking, which makes it a great
snack to go.
Dillisk boosts the flavour of any sandwich creation, gives a great taste in soups and salads or when
baking bread or pizza, just add it to the dough.
Simply sprinkle it on to oven baked potatoes – add it to the batter of your favourite fish – a spoon full of Dillisk Flakes in your stews will make it a special family recipe.
